The Oforikrom Municipal Directorate of the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE) on Thursday, February 26, 2026, organized a social auditing forum at the Church of Christ auditorium in the municipality to promote transparency, accountability and citizen participation in local governance.
The forum brought together municipal officials, traditional authorities, assembly members, Commission on Human Rights and Administration Justice and Persons with disabilities representatives, faith-based organizations, and the media to discuss on the importance of participatory governance.
The Oforikrom Municipal Director of the NCCE, Madam Rosina Owoo, underscored the importance of social accountability and urged participants to openly share their views and concerns to improve service delivery. She also encouraged citizens to remain vigilant in the fight against bribery and corruption to enhance development within the Assembly and the nation at large.
Mr. Emmanuel Asare, the Right to Information Officer, educated participants on the Right to Information Act (Act 989), explaining procedures for accessing information from government institutions and selected private entities operating within the municipality. He assured the public that the Information Services Department of the Assembly stands ready to facilitate access to information in accordance with the law.
Addressing the gathering, the Oforikrom Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Anwel Sadat Ahmed, emphasized accountability and active citizen participation in local governance. He urged residents to contribute meaningfully to the development of the municipality by exercising their civic rights responsibly.
Hon. Ahmed advised citizens to speak up when they witness wrongdoing in their communities and to demand accountability from public officials when necessary. He, however, cautioned against the spread of unverified information, encouraging residents to seek clarification from appropriate authorities before making public claims.
The MCE assured participants that concerns and requests raised at the forum would be addressed in due course.
“There is great hope ahead. Everybody matters. With the necessary cooperation from citizens, the government will deliver,” he affirmed.
