The incumbent Presiding Member, Hon. Richard Nyarko has successfully been re-elected by the General Assembly of the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly.
The fresh election was held today following an earlier failed attempt to secure the constitutionally required two-thirds majority. Prior to voting, Hon. Joshua Ofori, who had contested Hon. Richard Nyarko in the earlier rounds, rescinded his decision to contest, leaving the incumbent as the sole candidate.
The Municipal Director of the Electoral Commission, Madam Matilda Kwarteng, consequently announced that the election would be decided by a “Yes” or “No” vote in accordance with electoral procedures for unopposed candidates.
At the end of voting, Hon. Richard Nyarko secured 20 “Yes” votes, zero “No” votes and one rejected ballot. Having surpassed the two-thirds majority threshold, he was duly declared winner.
Madam Matilda Kwarteng formally declared Hon. Richard Nyarko elected as Presiding Member of the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly.
In attendance was the Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Anwel Sadat Ahmed, the Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Kwasi Mintah Owusu, and Heads of Department.
