OFORIKROM MUNICIPAL ASSEMBLY INAUGURATES ASSEMBLY MEMBERS

The Oforikrom Municipal Assembly on Monday, February 12, 2024 inaugurated its newly elected assembly members, Government appointees and unit committee members

The Ashanti Regional Minister, Hon. Osei-Mensah, who doubled as the presidential rep for the occasion, extended his heartfelt congratulations to the assembly members, acknowledging their triumph in the recent elections and emphasizing the immense responsibility that lay ahead of them.

He urged them to embrace their mandate with unwavering dedication and integrity. He also stressed the importance of prioritizing the welfare and progress of their constituents, ensuring that their voices are head and their needs met.

The Amakomhene Nana Adu Mensah Asare II, in his address, admonished assembly members on the importance of respecting and collaborating with the traditional authorities, recognizing their profound understanding of the community’s history, customs, and aspirations.

 He urged the assembly members to seek counsel and work hand in hand with the traditional leaders to ensure harmony, peace, and stability within the Oforikrom Municipality.

Assembly members were taken through the oaths of secrecy and allegiance. They solemnly pledged to serve the people in the Oforikrom Municipality with unwavering dedication, integrity, and a genuine desire to improve their lives.

The inauguration concluded with a keenly contested election for a Presiding Member for the General Assembly. Hon. Richard Nyarko and Hon. Kenneth Owusu Bediako, assembly members for Deduako and Boadi/Emena/Appiadu/Kokoben electoral areas respectively contested for the position.

After the first round of voting, none of the three gained the required absolute majority of 16 votes to become the Presiding Member of the assembly. In the second round of voting, Hon. Richard Nyarko garnered 16 votes where as Hon. Kenneth Owusu Bediako also got 4 votes.

The elected presiding member was sworn in by His Lordship, Joseph Yennuban Kunson, Magistrate Judge, Asokwa District Court who took him through the Oaths of Secrecy and Allegiance.

He expressed his joy for winning the contest and was grateful to his collogues for the confidence reposed in him. Additionally, he pledged to maintain transparency of the assembly as well as the responsibility to their constituents with the support from his collogues and assembly.
