The Oforikrom Assembly successfully organized a community cleanup exercise on Saturday, August 3, 2024, in line with its adopted monthly cleanup initiative.
The event, which took place at Oforikrom and Tech Junction, was conducted under the theme "CLEAN ENVIRONMENT PAYS" and saw active participation from various stakeholders and community members.
The exercise began at 6:00 AM, with volunteers gathering to carry out a series of environmental sanitation activities. The main tasks included sweeping the main streets, markets, lorry terminals, and other public open spaces. Additionally, the volunteers desilted choked drains, sprayed public drains with chemical disinfectants, transported collected solid waste to the final disposal site, and cleared overgrown weeds.
Participants were equipped with protective gear, including gloves, boots, and nose masks, to ensure their safety during the exercise. They also received tools such as brooms, rakes, shovels, wheelbarrows, and cutlasses to facilitate the efficient execution of the tasks.
The event saw the presence of Honorable Assembly Members, representatives from the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), cleaners from Zoomlion Ghana, staff from the Assembly, and several local residents.
The Municipal Environmental Health Officer, who was also present, expressed his gratitude to all participants for their commitment to the cause. He emphasized the importance of maintaining a clean environment, stating, "Cleanliness is next to godliness," and encouraged the community to avoid indiscriminate disposal of waste.
The officer also highlighted that maintaining a clean environment is crucial for promoting public health and urged residents to continue supporting such initiatives in the future.
