GKMA HOUSEHOLD TOILET JAMBOREE HELD

Greater Kumasi Municipal Assemblies (GKMA) Sanitation and Water Project held their maiden edition fun games at Paa Joe Stadium at the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) campus on Saturday, March 25, 2023.

All the municipalities from the GKMA present were Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly (KMA), Oforikrom Municipal Assembly(OfMA), Asokwa Municipal Assembly (AskMA), Kwadaso Municipal Assembly (KdMA), Old Tafo Municipal Assembly (OtMA), Asokore Mampong Municipal Assembly (AMMA) and Ejisu Municipal Assembly (EMA).

The main purpose for the fun games was to increase awareness and to embark on operation 15k Toilet for 2023. As the sixth goal of the Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations, the GKMA want to ensure the actualization of the goal by ensuring that every household within the municipalities have access to clean water and sanitation facilities.

The Ejisu Municipal Assembly tops all the other municipal assemblies with the highest record of household toilet projects. The officers used the occasion to admonish their counterparts to double up their work to help them achieve their goal.

Hon. Richmond Tweneboah Kodua, representative from the Ashanti Regional Coordinating Council (ARCC) welcomed the municipalities in the GKMA to Paa Joe Stadium in KNUST. He appreciated the great work that the municipalities are doing especially the Ejisu Municipal Assembly for having the highest record in this project. He therefore encouraged other municipalities to work hard and help the GKMA to reach to their targeted figures they want.

The MCE of the Oforikrom Municipal Assembly, Hon. Abraham Kwame Antwi, was grateful to host the maiden edition of the fun games for the Household Toilet Team. He was happy on how the assemblies have become united and is willing to participate in the games. He was optimist that the host team, Oforikrom Municipal Assembly (OfMA), was going to emerge winners of all the various sporting categories.

“We (OfMA) are going to sweep away all the trophies. I trust my team for a good show.” He noted.

After the games, Hon. Tweneboah Kodua thanked all the municipalities for a peaceful event. He congratulated the Kwadaso Municipal Assembly (KdMA) for merging the overall winners of the maiden edition of the fun games for the jamboree. He also admonished all the municipalities to continue and work together for the GKMA Sanitation and Water project to achieve their aim.

In attendance were the Municipal Chief Executives, Hon. Abraham Kwame Antwi, Hon. Samuel Oduro Frimpong, and Hon. Richmond Agyenim-Boateng of the Oforikrom, Ejisu and Kwadaso Municipal Assemblies respectively, the Oforikrom Municipal Coordinating Director, Mr. Charles Attah-Mensah, Coordinating Director-GKMA, Engineer Asiedu, reps from the Regional Coordinating Council (RCC), Hon. Assembly Members and Staff of the various municipal assemblies.
