OFMA EMBARK ON MASS SENSITIZATION CAMPAIGN ON GKMA BIODIGESTER TOILET IMPLEMENTATION

The Oforikrom Environmental Health and Sanitation and Social Welfare and Community Development Officers spearheaded a comprehensive mass sensitization campaign on Friday, November 24, to promote the adoption of the Greater Kumasi Metropolitan Area (GKMA) biodigester toilet among households in the Kotei community.

The primary aim of the campaign was to raise awareness and encourage the widespread implementation of the GKMA biodigester toilet, with the ultimate goal of ensuring that every household in the area benefits from this groundbreaking sanitation initiative.

A dedicated tent stand was strategically set up, serving as a central point for residents to voluntarily approach officers, make inquiries, and register for the program. Team members were actively engaged in one-on-one discussions, providing detailed explanations about the biodigester toilet’s functionality, its cost-effectiveness, and the environmental advantages it offers.

In addition to the tent stand, officers undertook visits to households in the community, personally educating and sensitizing residents about the GKMA biodigester toilet project. The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive, as residents quickly recognized the potential benefits of this sustainable sanitation solution.

Key points of interest for residents included the potential for cost savings, improved hygiene standards, and the reduced environmental impact associated with the biodigester toilet. Many households expressed particular enthusiasm for the economic advantages and positive environmental implications that come with embracing this innovative sanitation technology.

The campaign saw the active participation of the Municipal Environmental Health Officer, Madam Constance Akuka, the Social Welfare and Community Development Officer, Madam Mary Serwaa-Adjen, and dedicated staff from the Environmental Health and Sanitation Department.

As the campaign continues, the Oforikrom Environmental Health and Sanitation Officers remain committed to ensuring that every resident in the Kotei community and municipality at large is well-informed about the benefits of the GKMA biodigester toilet, contributing to a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable living environment for all.
