Oforikrom Municipal Assembly inaugurates its 2nd Assembly

The Oforikrom Municipal Assembly held an inaugural General Assembly meeting on January 23, 2020 at The Institute of Distance Learning (IDL, KNUST) following the successful completion of the district Level Elections (DLEs).

The ceremony was necessary to usher in the newly elected Assembly Members. In all, 15 Assembly Members were sworn-in by His Lordship Eric Ansah Yeboah who represented the Chief Justice.

The MCE, Hon. Temmah Gambrah dedicated the assembly members to the assembly and pledged her readiness to diligently work with them for the benefit of the municipality.

Ashanti Regional Hon. Minister Simon Osei- Mensah cautioned the newly-sworn in Assembly members to desist from allocating spaces to traders unlawfully. He added that, the practice drains government’s coffers in the form of compensation when road expansion is undertaken.

He said though such arrangements are temporary, occupants always resist any attempt to evict them. He cited Atonsu- Agogo stretch of the Kumasi Lake Bosomtwe Road where government had to pay huge sums of money in compensation before occupants moved.

The Amakomhene, Nana Adu Mensah Asare who chaired the event said, relegating traditional authorities to the background has been the bane of many assemblies in the execution of their mandate hence, called on the assembly members to involve chiefs in their activities for national development.

Some dignitaries that graced the successful event were the the Member of Parliament for Oforikrom, Hon. Emmanuel Marfo, the Queen Mother of Ayigya; Nana Akosua Oheneafreo, the Queen Mother of Ayeduase; Nana Yaa Saah I and some other prominent traditional leaders.
