MCE appeals to local govt minister to call the contractor on assembly block to order

The Oforikrom Municipal Chief Executive, Hon. Abraham Antwi has made a passionate appeal to the Minister of Local Government Decentralization and Rural Development to call the contractor working on the new Administration block that seems to be at a snail’s pace to order.

The disgruntled MCE stated that the pace at which the project is being executed has delayed its completion whereas all other sister Municipal assemblies created in the same year with similar projects and started at almost the same time have moved into their completed offices.

He was particularly concerned that very soon the rent advance paid for the premises being used as the Assembly office will expire and the assembly would have to pay money that could have been used for other pressing needs of the assembly to renew the rent advance.

He noted that the delay of the project is defeating the aim of having all the decentralized departments under one roof to enable them to operate in a manner that would enhance effective and efficient administration.

Hon. Antwi made this call when he presented his sessional address to the General Assembly on 28th June 2022.

The project which started in 2019 at Emena-Appaidu by the Local Government, Decentralization and Rural Development Ministry in collaboration with the office of the Administrator of District Assemblies Common Fund (DACF) forms part of government plans to ensure that all the new municipal assemblies created had a new administration block that will house all their decentralized departments.

The project which is nowhere near completion, is currently roofed with the windows and doors fixed. The ground floor has been tiled however, plastering and fixing of fittings are still on-going
